In a surprise move, Zeiss has announced that they are back in the anamorphic lens business. Many filmmakers like anamorphic lenses for the oval bokeh, cinematic stretched image and unique lens flares, but there aren’t a lot of compact options available. Zeiss is ready to mend that by creating a full prime set of anamorphics.

ZEISS anamorphic lenses will be lightweight and compact—smaller than the working prototype shown [above]. They will have a 2x squeeze.

Expect a more in-depth announcement at NAB 2012 and a possible product release at IBC. Read more about this on Film and Digital Times web magazine.
