As pixel density gets larger and screens get smaller, EVFs (electronic viewfinders) began flooding the market. While not a new item, the lower cost of new technologies allowed them to become more affordable for the average shooter. Now a new company looks to step in and blow away the standard 800×480 EVFs.

MicroOLED is working on a display that can handle upwards of 1,280 x 1,024 color pixels in the size of an EVF screen. If this becomes an affordable option, gone may be the days for the need of an optical viewfinder.

MicroOLED’s new microdisplay has a resolution of around 1.3 megapixels in color, or five megapixels in black and white.
