Adobe gives away Photoshop, Premiere and the rest of Creative Suite CS2 for FREE? [UPDATE]

So you have an old computer that you’d like to install Adobe software on but you don’t want to purchase another copy…or maybe you’re a starving student who just purchased your first camera and doesn’t have any more cash…or maybe you’re tired of torrenting software. Regardless, free is a very easy price to pay for Adobe software. Though it’s a few years old, it still runs great and opens up a world of professional tools for shooters who might otherwise be using less than pro software.

Looks like the interwebs had it wrong. Adobe isn’t giving away CS2 but rather turning off their activation servers for CS2.Â Adobeâ€™s Dov Isaacs explains further:

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that donâ€™t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.)

…However, please note that you are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you already have a valid license to the product!

So there you go, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. That said, ever since Adobe switched to the “Creative Cloud”, it’s cheaper now than ever to get a full copy of the current Creative Suite CS6 which means noÂ compromisesÂ and current features.

While control surfaces for NLEs can be a huge asset, they also can cost thousands of dollars. The team at CTRL+Console are working on apps that can control Final Cut, Premiere and Lightroom right from your iOS device. This can speed up your editing and overall improve your workflow.

To make it happen though, they are running a Kickstarter campaign to finalize development. There are only a few days left to jump on the bandwagon and help fund this awesome product.

Final Cut users can switch and save 50% off Adobe Premiere Pro

The latest iteration of Final Cut Pro has not been well received; all the 1 star user reviews on the App Store prove that. Many thought Adobe should take advantage of Apple’s mess and make it more cost effective for users to switch. Well (unlike Apple) Adobe listened to their customer base and is offering a 50% discount when you switch from Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer. This applies to either Adobe Premiere Pro or Production Premium Suite. Many users are finding switching from Final Cut 6 or 7 to Premiere to be easier than switching to Final Cut Pro X.

Pushing the limits of the CineStyle Canon 5D MkII color preset

During a recent production where we were shooting outdoors on a cloudy day, I decided to push the limits of the new Technicolor CineStyle preset for the Canon 5D MkII. Instead of white balancing to 5600K or higher, I set my white balance at 3200K which resulted in a very blue image. Usually this would be unusable if not very difficult to color correct in post. But as you can see, I was able to get some really great results using CineStyle.
