How many of us at one time or another have slowed time down during a video? This technique dramatically draws attention to your subject and lets face it, it’s just plain cool! Lets take a few minutes and look at technique of capturing a series of images over a specific period of time, otherwise known as Time-Lapse Video.

I feel it’s  important to note that video is nothing more but a sequence of images captured at specific frame rate to create a moving image.

If you haven’t heard of Patryk Kizny I at least hope you’ll become familiar with his work,  Patryk has a unique ability or from looking at his work, a passion for time-lapse photography. One of his latest pieces of work, The Chapel showcases exactly what is possible with a Canon 5D MkII, some gear and 20,000 plus images! I hope this has whet your appetite, now lets take a look at the video below and be prepared to be blown away!

At this point you may be saying to yourself like me, “Wow, how did he do it”? We know what type of camera equipment Patryk used but that doesn’t hardly scratch the surface of everything involved in making a time-lapse video like The Chapel. Patryk also uses some specialized video equipment, perhaps the second most important piece of gear is, The OmniSlider basically, it’s a high tech  linear Motion Control Slider.  If you’re curious about all the types of equipment and software Patryk uses, check out his website at Looky Creative. I can’t begin to tell you all the work involved in a project like the Chapel but Patryk and his team has put together a behind the scenes video that is a must see, check it out here.

Patryk also likes to share what he has learned through filmmaking, he has set up a few tutorials at Looky Creative to help you become more familiar with the process of time-lapse photography, stop by and  check it out. If that wasn’t enough take a look at Patryk’s Complete Time-Lapse Production Workflow.
