Great review on the Lightcraft rig. I have actually been using one for about a month now and very happy with the value for money this gives you. I would have to say though another con not pointed out is the focus rings that the rig comes with. They are absolute rubbish. But for the price can’t complain. Go out and buy redrock micro focus rings or some of the others that are much easier to tighten up on the lens. Again great rig and great ability to customise.

Hopefully this video will never be viewed by anyone outside of the video production industry. It’s an embarrassment to anyone who actually runs a business. Good times are allowed and definitely can help creative juices, then there are the unprofessional ones like you that make someone second guess having a professional in their house.
Bad shooting, bad audio. Cash in on Film Scene now before you make any more videos like this one.

I totally agree. Some people seem to believe that showing off gear “looks professional”, when in fact only a professional attitude can do that. And that is usually the difference between brats playing with expensive toys and professionals using the tools they need. Professional pre-production and planning do not allow “fooling around” except during lunch break, maybe.

I mentioned in the comments of the video on YouTube that this shoot was done pro bono. We knew the clients and were comfortable being casual around them. This video was done FOR the episode of DVTV.

When I’m doing shoots for large corporations and government videos, we are much more professional. I am aware of how to present myself and my production company.

Enjoy this episode for what it is, a few guys having fun behind the scenes of a video shoot.

if you can’t enjoy yourself on a job, “professionally hired” or not..
then what’s the point? get off your high horse… being a professional
doesn’t mean you can’t carry a humored mindset. the end product is the point, and if nothing was damaged or destroyed in the midst of “enjoying” yourself, if time wasn’t wasted, and nothing inappropriate was said, then what’s to worry about? People care far too much about image and personality of the workers in an industry that virtually has nothing to do with the people who handle the job, but rather the result that gets what is needed done. Respect people, their home, their property, and be mindful of who and what is around you.. but be you. No need to be a stiff. Just because you ACT “professional” doesn’t mean your product is all of the sudden that much better.

At first I thought VidPro was being harsh but by the end it did seem like you left out a lot of informative stuff in to show more of the ‘out takes’ I guess you would call them.
for instance I would love to have seen more about the dolly shot with the boom into the lounge and how it was set up etc. Also you are talking about a kicker light for the toilet but dont explain what you are trying to achieve with it although I am guessing trying to get more light in there is the answer, but what is the best way to do that and what did you do in the end (I saw the light from the ground gave it the ghostly look hence the banter about the scarey toilet).
So by the end of it I felt like I didn’t get enough of the info I was looking for as much as I watched you guys muck around. Which is fine but it can get too much.

I thought this was great, Tony and crew. I don’t see many people doing videos like this and actually putting people BTS in order to be able to see how the all magic comes together and all of the gear is used. If it was so easy to produce a 20 minute tutorial and review video, then everyone would be doing it. It’s hard work. Try it and see.

It’s obvious that some people have no sense of humor (VidProProductions) and needs to get one. Having fun on the job is good. This wasn’t at all “unprofessional”. If you show up to a shoot and have an attitude like you are the best, people aren’t going to be comfortable and will probably think you are a jerk. If you have fun, those around you will feel at ease and no so uptight.

There are situations when you can sense that a client isn’t the type of person to have fun…and in those situations, you need to take it down a notch and get the job done.

Tony and crew did nothing unprofessional here. Job well done.

As far as someones comment on here about a lapel mic: it’s just a BTS video man. Tony didn’t shoot the BTS for a feature film. Watch any BTS where the cam is walking around showing what’s going on…same thing. Was he supposed to hire a crew for this or something? It was PRO BONO…that means he didn’t make any money…he did it to create a video for US TO WATCH AND LEARN!!!!

I do have a question Tony, what WOULD you charge for something like this? IF you were to be contracted by a Real Estate Agent?

I would figure the numbers based upon my normal daily rates for gear, crew and post. Something of this scale would probably run around $2k…give or take.

This video is honestly quite bad, I stumbled upon it through Planet 5d.
just because you have tons of gear it doesn’t make you a pro.
with the resources you guys had it should have looked ten times better,
the dolly shots were really bad and it seemed that the rails were laid by a drunken person…
the crane shots were senseless as of a lot of the sliders were.

the DPing was quite amateuristic with awful mixed tungsten and daylight (please don’t tell me that that was intentional)… even a kid right out of school knows that you have to gel lights to match color temps…

I can’t believe, pro bono or not, that you guys behave in a client environment the ways you do… remember this was supposed to be a real estate video not a indie short with your friend kind of thing. At least just be clear on it because sadly you guys are one of the few “reputable” resources that pop out on google for free video training sources and could really train new aspiring videographers with wrong ideas of professionalism and weak trade skills.

I did look at your reel and a lot of the same things transpire out of it as well.

It’s all about knowing your market and not selling yourself too cheap. If someone wants a video for $500, we’ll come in a for a few hours and shoot with with available light and some basic gear. If they want the full production, it will cost them more. And trust me, for multi-million dollar homes, people will pay for good production.

If an agent can take a client from 15 possible homes to 3 homes due to video versus photo, that agent increases their revenue for the work dramatically. It’s a cost to benefit vision. Some will have it. Some will not.

It is possible to have fun and be informative/professional at the same time. I guess you got the fun part right. And I love how you deceive potential buyers by deliberately faking source light from a make-believe window – love your ethics: pro bono or not – you should have been fired by the real estate agent. If the vision statement of NextWaveDV is to “provide the latest news, tips and training resources for video and film makers,” you fail in the worst possible way.

Actually light does come through a real window and hits the wall exactly where I placed the Source 4, just not at that moment. That’s the DPs job, to light things and make them look their best.
